Hello, my name is Rickie Chen.
I am a first-generation Asian American who grew up in the Midwest, now based in California. I recently graduated from the University of California, San Diego, and majored in B.S. Cognitive Science specializing in Design & Interaction with a minor in Management Science. I am passionate about the field of UX/UI and Product Design because I truly believe that good design has the power to bridge gaps and inspire change.
My interest in this field started with graphic design, from making wallpapers for my close ones to doing freelance marketing work for small businesses. I strive to help others with a human-centric approach in mind.
Since then, I've had the opportunity to be a part of the Product Design teams at a biotechnology company called 23andMe and an aviation start-up incubator called ALPS Innovation which was in collaboration with Bellewether Industries
Furthermore, I've worked with multiple non-profit organizations in the San Diego community through Triton Software Engineering, a student org that provides pro-bono design & web development services to clients. I've led a boot camp that teaches the fundamentals of the design process to aspiring UX/UI designers. I also was the president of a 60+ member technical consulting organization called Cornerstone Community Consultants.
Outside of work, I'm a huge movie buff with my favorite director being David Fincher. I also enjoy hiking, basketball, and recently just picked up surfing! 🏄
